study that covers contemporary 3D making skills in ceramics, jewellery and
mixed media. Students are free to produce fine art, studio craft or designer
objects / artefacts. The
course philosophy is driven by learning, though making underpinned by curiosity
and creativity. Students will be taught by a team of highly motivated,
experienced academic and technical staff. The teaching aims to foster
creativity and individuality through `hands-on' skills based teaching. Students
will undertake a programme of
study that incorporates an extensive range of making processes with ceramic,
fine metal, glass and mixed media, combining traditional and digital
technologies. In the second year they are able to specialise in
either ceramics or jewellery or
continue a combined creative practice using mixed media. Students will also
gain a knowledge and understanding of exciting developments within
international contemporary art, applied art and design, its contexts and
markets. Professional practice and enterprise skills teaching will prepare
students for employment and self-employment. The programme can
also offer individuals an opportunity to create work in a bilingual context and
environment. Practice is supported by an integrated theory programme
enabling people to work confidently and professionally within the context of
ceramics, jewellery and
3D art and design. The School of Art, Film and Media provides a friendly and
supportive environment for students to explore their options and develop their
individual style and potential.
