BA Hons Ceramics & and Jewellery

The BA Hons Ceramics & and Jewellery course is a diverse and dynamic programme of study that covers contemporary 3D making skills in ceramics, jewellery and mixed media. Students are free to produce fine art, studio craft or designer objects / artefacts. The course philosophy is driven by learning, though making underpinned by curiosity and creativity. Students will be taught by a team of highly motivated, experienced academic and technical staff. The teaching aims to foster creativity and individuality through `hands-on' skills based teaching. Students will undertake a programme of study that incorporates an extensive range of making processes with ceramic, fine metal, glass and mixed media, combining traditional and digital technologies. In the second year they are able to specialise in either ceramics or jewellery or continue a combined creative practice using mixed media. Students will also gain a knowledge and understanding of exciting developments within international contemporary art, applied art and design, its contexts and markets. Professional practice and enterprise skills teaching will prepare students for employment and self-employment. The programme can also offer individuals an opportunity to create work in a bilingual context and environment. Practice is supported by an integrated theory programme enabling people to work confidently and professionally within the context of ceramics, jewellery and 3D art and design. The School of Art, Film and Media provides a friendly and supportive environment for students to explore their options and develop their individual style and potential.
